Citi Simplicity Review--A Simple Balance Transfer Card

Citi Simplicity Review–A Simple Balance Transfer Card

Balance transfer credit cards are an important tool for paying off debt; when used correctly of course. The Citi Simplicity Card offers 12 months of 0% APR, and 16.49% – 26.49% after that, which is difficult to beat

Citi Simplicity Card is, as the title suggests, a simple card. While it does offer a low-interest rate for 12 months, there are plenty of other features that make the Citi Simplicity Card as great card overall.

The Citi Simplicity Card is perfect for anyone looking for a credit card with a great introductory offer, no annual fee, and no late fees.

Let's go a bit further in this Citi Simplicity Card review.

No Annual Fee

Another huge perk of the Citi Simplicity Card is the fact that it comes with no annual fee. That means you can focus on paying off your debt rather than being bogged down by fees.

Citi has a couple of security features that keep your credit card protected. To start, they have identity theft protection that can help you identify compromised accounts, file police reports, and take steps to get your credit back on track.

Citi cards also have EMV Chip Technology that keep your card extra secure.

Finally, Citi offers a $0 liability policy on unauthorized charges. That means you won’t have to pay for any purchases you didn’t make.

Automatic Account Alerts

To help make sure you stay on top of your payments, you can set up alerts to your email or cell phone. You can have alerts sent to up to two email addresses and two mobile phone numbers.

If you set up alerts, Citi can remind you of the following:

  • Balance levels
  • Payments due
  • When you go over your credit limit

Customer Service

If you ever have questions about your Citi Simplicity Card, you can call Citi's 24/7 hotline. You can find the number on the back of your credit card.

All you have to do is say ‘representative' to access live help from a customer service representative. You can call the number 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Apple Pay

You can shop with your Citi card through Apple Pay. You can shop in stores, through apps, or online.

Linking your card is incredibly easy. It's a simple three-step process:

  1. Go to the “Services” tab on the Citi Mobile App for iOS and select “Digital Wallets”
  2. Tap “Add to Apple Wallet” and choose the Citi card you would like to add to your iPhone® or Apple Watch®
  3. Enter the one-time password to authenticate

Choose Your Payment Date

What's great about the Citi Simplicity Card is that you can choose when to pay your bill. You can pay on any day of the month. It doesn't matter if it's the beginning, middle, or end of the month.

There are a few fees associated with the Citi Simplicity Card. While they don't make or break the card, the fees are important to note, especially the balance transfer fee. If you're going to use a card, you'll want to note all the details associated with it.

Balance Transfer Fee

Citi Simplicity's balance transfer fee is either $5 or 5% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater.

If you have a large amount of debt, the balance transfer fee can be significant.

Cash Advance Fee

The cash advance fee is either $10 or 5% of the amount of each cash advance, whichever is greater.

Foreign Transaction Fee

This isn't the card for frequent travelers. The Citi Simplicity Card offers no rewards, and there's a foreign transaction fee of 3% of each purchase.

Late fee

As I mentioned above, the Citi Simplicity comes with no late fee. Ever. There's surprisingly no catch, either. This is one of the nicest perks of the Citi Simplicity Card.

Other Citi Cards To Consider

While the Citi Simplicity Card is a great balance transfer card, it can be too simple for some. Luckily, Citi has a lot to offer when it comes to credit cards.

If you're looking for a great cash back rewards card, the Citi Double Cash card offers 2% cash back on all your purchases–1% when you buy, and 1% when you pay off your purchases. Plus, it has no annual fee.

For travel reward enthusiasts, there's the Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard. You can earn airline miles for American Airlines, and the current sign-up bonus at the time of writing is 50,000 bonus miles after spending $2,500 within the first three months.

Or, if you're looking for a travel and dining card, there's the Citi Prestige card, which offers an incredible 5x points on travel and restaurants, 3x points at hotels and on cruise lines, and 1x points on all other purchases. It does have a whopping $495 annual fee, but if you're a high earner, that should be no problem.

Final Thoughts

In this Citi Simplicity Card review, we discussed how it is a great tool for paying down debt. Unfortunately, it doesn't offer any rewards. However, if you're trying to pay off debt, you shouldn't use your card for purchases until that debt is paid off so the rewards are inconsequential.
